Discussed At NU's 34th Congress, PKB Legislators Are Sure The TPKS Bill Will Be Ratified Soon

JAKARTA - Member of Commission VIII of the DPR RI from the PKB faction, MF Nurhuda Yusro, believes that the TPKS Bill will soon be ratified. The reason is, the majority of parties want a legal umbrella against perpetrators of sexual harassment, which has recently become increasingly common.

"I think the Draft Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence (RUU TPKS) will be passed soon. Why? The leaders of the DPR have stated that they will immediately ratify the bill," said Nurhuda, Friday, December 24.

At least, he said, the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Muhaimin Iskandar, had pushed for the ratification of the bill at the closing plenary session last Thursday, December 16.

In addition, the PKB faction also requested that the 34th NU congress be able to discuss the issue of the TPKS Bill. Because, the rise of cases of sexual violence should be the concern of the muktamirin. "In addition, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) at the 34th Congress has officially pushed for the immediate ratification of the TPKS Bill, so that the DPR gets moral encouragement from the largest religious organization in Indonesia," explained Nurhuda.

According to him, the moral encouragement is very important because the DPR is a political institution that represents the community. Nurhuda also appreciates NU through the Bahtsul Masail Qonuniyah Commission which has recommended that the TPKS Bill be ratified immediately. "And it has been decided at the Plenary Session of the NU Congress in Lampung, before the general chairman election," said the legislator from the Central Java electoral district.

He added that in the plenary decision of the 34th NU Qonuniah Muktamar commission, it had also been decided to encourage the DPR to immediately ratify the Domestic Worker Protection Bill (PPRT). Nurhuda considered this as proof that NU really took sides with women's issues.

"This is a very important decision, considering that the two bills have been discussed in the DPR for a long time," said Nurhuda.

Previously, the Recommendation Commission for the 34th NU Lampung Congress asked the DPR and the government to immediately ratify the Draft Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence (RUU TPKS).
"The state needs to ratify the TPKS Bill as a legal umbrella for preventing sexual violence," said Chairman Alissa Qotrunnada Munawaroh Wahid when reading the recommendations at the NU Congress arena, Lampung, Thursday, December 23. Alissa emphasized that so far sexual violence has claimed many victims. Therefore, the state needs to strengthen its domestic violence prevention program. The program will be able to target family members who tend to be weak and weakened. "Such as women, children and individuals with special needs," said Alissa. The bill has not yet been ratified because the DPR Bamus Meeting has not yet agreed that the discussion of the draft regulation will be brought to the last DPR Plenary Meeting in 2021, Thursday, December 16. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said that the TPKS Bill failed to be brought to the last Plenary Meeting in 2021, not because it was not agreed upon. Instead, it has passed the deadline for the leadership and Bamus DPR meetings.
