Police Intervene To Investigate Medical Waste Scattered In The Former NTB BKMM Building
MATARAM - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Mataram City Police is investigating the cause of medical waste piling up and strewn around the area of the former Community Eye Health Center (BKMM) building in West Nusa Tenggara.
Head of the Satreskrim Polresta Mataram, Police Commissioner Kadek Adi Budi Astawa explained, this investigation is part of the police's efforts to uncover the role of the person in charge of the medical waste scattered there.
"If it's intentional, just let it go, of course it can lead to a criminal element," he said in Mataram, Thursday, December 23.
Initial efforts to uncover this he has ordered members to record the types of drugs and used medical equipment mixed into the waste.
"Yesterday we directly shared the data with DLHK. From the data it is known that there are five types of drugs scattered in the medical waste, there are also bottles of chemical liquids, infusions, and injection marks," he said.
However, there is something surprising from the results of the data collection, the police not only found types of drugs that had expired, but there were also found those whose expiration dates only expired in 2022.
"How can there be goods that have not expired yet mixed in the waste. So, that's what we are after," he said. Based on this finding, he made sure that his members would schedule a request for clarification to the relevant parties.
"We will later call the relevant agencies, the NTB BKMM, the NTB Health Service, the Forestry and Environment Service and also the State 2 Mataram Special School, which is now occupying the building," he said.
However, he stressed, they will prioritize the handling of medical waste which is now a threat to health problems for the surrounding community and the SLB Negeri 2 Mataram.
"Our priority is the continuity of the teaching and learning process there, because in early January 2022, they (SLB Negeri 2 Mataram) have started. So how is it now that the place is safe, clean and the school can carry out teaching and learning activities," he said. This was reported by Antara.
