Fast Boat Burns, One Person Disappears In Papua's Asmat Waters
JAYAPURA - The Asmat Police Team, Papua, together with residents are still looking for one person who was reported missing when a speedboat with six passengers caught fire in Wowo Village, Suator District.
Asmat Police Chief AKBP Dani Gumilar said the victim who was reported missing was named Tiem Halerohom.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, December 21, started when the speedboat with the 85 PK engine driven by Paskali Kapo ran out of gas, so the driver took spare gasoline.
"When filling gasoline and when filling it spilled on the floor so it was cleaned and then continued the journey," said AKBP Dany Gumilar.
From the report he received, it was known that while on the way, suddenly a spark came out which grabbed the remaining gasoline and then enlarged and burned the fast boat.
Then the Kapolsek and Koramil along with the Head of the Suator District moved to the location of the incident to evacuate the victims to the Binam Health Center.
Five people who suffered burns were Ernes Orgenes Athab (29), Paskalis Kapo (18), Ambrosius Wogan (46), Philemon Viak (41) and Sarmelina Wamony (30).
"Of the five victims, three of them suffered serious burns so they were evacuated to the Asmat Hospital in Agats," said the Asmat Police Chief.
