BNN: Papua New Guinea Is Still The Main Supplier Of Marijuana In Papua

JAYAPURA - The head of the Papuan Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) Tjatur Abrianto admitted that Papua New Guinea (PNG) is still the main supplier of marijuana-type narcotics.

"There are many rat roads that traffickers can use to cross and enter Papua, especially Jayapura City and Keerom Regency, which are directly adjacent to PNG," he said in Jayapura, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 20.

In addition, according to Tjatur, Jayapura City has a relatively sloping beach, making it easier for people's motorboats to be docked, said Tjatur.

In his year-end statement, he explained that during 2021 the Papua BNNP handled 19 cases with 25 suspects, including marijuana and crystal methamphetamine.

The case, he explained, was handled by the Papua BNNP as many as 11 cases with 11 suspects, Jayapura Regency BNN (BNNK) and Mimika BNNK each four cases with seven suspects.

For suppliers of methamphetamine, Tjatur said the majority were supplied from three regions, namely Jakarta, Madura (East Java), and Makassar (South Sulawesi) which were sent via freight forwarding services.

The dealers, continued BNN, always try to send and release the illicit goods so that it hopes for cooperation with all parties to thwart efforts to spread shabu-type narcotics.

"Don't hesitate to inform if you know there is narcotics circulation in the neighborhood because narcotics will damage the community," Tjatur hoped.
