It Turns Out That Properly Decorating Your Home Helps You Live Longer, Follow The 7 Tips
JAKARTA – Without realizing it, the environment shapes a person's healthy lifestyle. It starts at home, where you put a refrigerator that keeps food in stock and influences bad habits.
According to Dan Buettner as reported by Well+Good, Friday, December 17, people who live in the Blue Zone area live long not only because of a healthy diet, regular exercise, and other healthy habits. The Blue Zone areas include Okinawa, Japan; Sarnidia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece; and Loma Linda, California have healthy behavior so that they live a long life.
Experts share ways to decorate homes to support healthy behavior during spending more time like during a pandemic. Here are expert tips for organizing your home.
1. Place the TV room away from the kitchenA study found that people tend to eat even though they are full when they watch television, for example. Dan said, the problem of eating snacks while watching is a habit that is harder to break than registering for a gym or yoga.
This means placing your viewing device at home away from the kitchen. It helps to spend time walking to access food in the kitchen instead of putting the fridge in the television room.
2. Put a shoe rack near the doorPeople in Okinawa, Japan, put a shoe rack near the door. Okinawa is one of the Blue Zones that has a habit of taking off shoes when arriving home. According to Buettner's explanation, there is a 28 percent chance that shoes carry fecal bacteria and of course affect the home environment.
3. Grow plants outdoorsIf you have land in the front or back of the house, plant plants there. Gardening is an activity in every area in the Blue Zone with people over 90 years old and still caring for vegetables and other plants in their home gardens.
4. Add natural elements in the houseBoth plants and decorating homes with biophilic designs are beneficial in reducing stress. This is also a typical way of decorating homes in Singapore's most populous long-lived areas.
For example, you can put plants that clean the air in the house. Can also put plants that grow at dawn in the room.
5. Choose furniture that is not too tallIt is estimated that about a quarter of Americans over the age of 65 fall at home and require hospitalization. On the other hand, in Okinawa, they prefer to sit on the floor which means their body is more flexible and their lower body is strong.
Through this picture, Buettner suggests choosing the right furniture. Choose a sturdy and minimize the risk of falling.
6. Anti-slip design for bathroomThere are various ways to minimize slipping, for example by placing an anti-slip mat in front of the bathroom door or adding handrails in the bathroom. In addition, also choose a tile material that is not slippery.
7. Make the bedroom quieterThe simplest way to redecorate a bedroom is to choose anti-see-through curtains. Thick curtains also help make the room more soundproof so outside noise doesn't interfere with your rest.
Arrange so that the bedroom gets enough air. Plus, regularly clean the room and tidy it up to get quality rest.
In addition to decorating the home, provide a welcoming space for guests. For example, placing a set of chairs in one corner or right in front of the exit door.
