Joyontakan Solo Elementary School Ceiling Collapses, Gibran Ensures School Renovations Next Year
SOLO - SDN Joyontakan 59 in Serengan District, Surakarta, Central Java was forced to conduct face-to-face learning (PTM) with a shift system after the ceiling collapsed due to termites.
The head of SDN Joyontakan 59, Supatmi, said the school was last renovated in 2005. The ceilings began to fall around October 2021.
"So PTM has started, the children have entered from grades 1-6," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 14.
With the collapse of the roof, he said, the 150 students were forced to take direct lessons with the morning and afternoon shift system and carried out every day.
"Because there is only one room that can be used," he said.
While waiting for renovations, the school and school supervisors will look for other locations to use as emergency classes.
The school superintendent, Sri Wahyuni, said that in relation to emergency classes, coordination is still being carried out with other schools that are close by.
"We just want to coordinate, what is the best way so as not to interfere with the SD that is occupied and the children's learning," he said.
Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka confirmed that the school will be renovated starting January 2022.
"DED has been completed, the budget shortfall will be assisted, the council has agreed. This is a priority, next year it will be worked on," he said.
He said that up to now there are about five schools in Solo that have been prioritized for renovation, including SDN Joyontakan 59.
"Actually, it was budgeted for but it quickly collapsed. For a safe room (emergency class, ed.) later we will find a solution, we will find a location," he said.
