Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Shakes East Java-Bali Due To Plate Subduction Activities
JAKARTA - A tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 that shook the southern region of East Java and Bali at 12:46 WIB was caused by a medium earthquake due to plate subduction activity.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at the coordinates of 9.69 degrees South Latitude; 113.57 degrees east longitude, or precisely located in the sea at a distance of 167 km south of Jember City, East Java at a depth of 73 km.
"The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has a horizontal movement mechanism (strike slip)," said Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center Bambng Setiyo Prayitno in a statement received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Monday, December 13.
Bambang said the earthquake shock was felt in the Kuta III MMI area (the vibration was felt in the house. "Until now there has been no report of the impact of damage caused by the earthquake. The modeling results show that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami," he said.
Bambang reported that as of 13.20 WIB, the results of BMKG monitoring had not shown any aftershock activity.
The BMKG recommends that the community remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be accounted for. In order to avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake.
Then check and make sure the building where you live is earthquake-resistant enough, or there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before you return home.
