Minister Of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian Urges Southeast Sulawesi Regional Government To Accelerate COVID-19 Vaccination

JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian has urged the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Government to accelerate the COVID-19 vaccination.

A release from the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that Southeast Sulawesi is one of the provinces that still needs to accelerate to achieve the COVID-19 vaccination target, which is 70 percent by the end of the year.

The Minister of Home Affairs explained that President Joko Widodo had targeted the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination by 70 percent until the end of December 2021 at the national level.

The Minister of Home Affairs himself is one of the parties assigned by the President to encourage local government officials to accelerate vaccination.

"To achieve the 70 percent target, there needs to be an acceleration," said the Minister of Home Affairs during the Coordination Meeting for the COVID-19 Vaccination Acceleration Strategy with the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government, quoted from Antara, Sunday 12 December.

The Minister of Home Affairs said that out of 17 regencies/cities in Southeast Sulawesi, only Kendari City has been able to achieve the vaccination target of 70 percent.

Even so, the Minister of Home Affairs admitted, based on the coordination meeting there was enthusiasm shown by other regencies/cities to achieve the vaccination target. The spirit is like building collaborations with various agencies to support vaccination through various methods.

"In fact, I saw a lot of creativity, breakthroughs made by fellow regional heads of level II (regents/mayors), some gave motorbikes, refrigerators, some even gave cows (for those who took vaccinations)," he said.

The Minister of Home Affairs considered that this step was a creative breakthrough to encourage people to want to participate in the vaccination program.
