KSP Moeldoko Appreciates Baleg DPR Approves TPKS Bill As A Parliamentary Initiative

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko appreciates the Legislative Body (Baleg) of the DPR which has approved the Bill on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS). He said the people's aspirations had been heard by members of the DPR RI.

"The Legislative Council has succeeded in capturing the aspirations that developed in the community and translating the reality and data about sexual violence into a strong commitment to prevent and eradicate sexual violence," said Moeldoko in a written statement, Saturday, December 11.

Furthermore, KSP initiated the formation of a cross-ministerial/institutional task force so that discussions can be carried out effectively so that this law is immediately ratified.

Deputy V Chief of Presidential Staff of the Republic of Indonesia Jaleswari Pramodhawardani who is also Deputy Chair of the Task Force Implementation Team said the team consisted of the Presidential Staff Office, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Ministry of Women and Children Empowerment (PPA), the Attorney General's Office, and the National Police.

"The task force also involves stakeholders from various elements, ranging from civil society, academia, to the media. Hopefully this TPKS Bill can continue to be approved in the next formal steps and become the hope, answer and support for the victims," explained Jaleswari.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej said that the government through the task force would oversee the ratification of the TPKS Bill into law, by coordinating at all levels.

For information, the TPKS Bill has been proposed since 2016. However, due to struggles and unequal powers in the DPR, the TPKS Bill was floated until it finally re-entered the National Legislation Program in January 2021.

Furthermore, the DPR RI Baleg plenary meeting approved the TPKS Bill as an initiative of the DPR, Wednesday, December 8. The decision was taken at the Baleg Plenary Meeting after hearing the opinions of nine factions.
