Jokowi Goes To KPK
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked that the crackdown on corruption in the country should not create a scene. He said the practice of rasuah should be eradicated in a more comprehensive way and the benefits can be felt directly by the community.
This was conveyed when he opened the commemoration of the 2021 World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) which was held at the KPK Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.
"Action should not only target legal events that create a scene on the surface, but require more fundamental, more basic, and more comprehensive efforts that the public will feel the benefits directly," said Jokowi in his remarks, Thursday, December 9.
He said that it is important for law enforcement officials to take action indiscriminately. Thus, a deterrent effect can be given and saving state money from presumptuous behavior can be carried out.
"It is very important to take action firmly and indiscriminately. Not only to provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators and give a frightening effect to those who do it, but enforcement is also very important to save state money and restore state losses," said the former governor of DKI Jakarta.
"Asset recovery and increasing non-tax state revenues, PNBP must also be prioritized for saving and recovering state finances and mitigating corruption from an early age," added Jokowi.
Furthermore, he reminded the eradication of corruption must be able to treat the root of the existing problems. Jokowi said arrests should not only be the main step without paying attention to prevention.
Moreover, prevention is a more basic step to save society from the dangers of corruption which is an extraordinary crime. "Eradication of corruption must not continue to be synonymous with arrests," said Jokowi.
"Eradication of corruption must treat the root of the problem, prevention is a more fundamental step and if we can prevent corruption, the interests of the people can be saved," he concluded.
