Covering Face With Jacket, Lecturer Suspect Of Harassment Of Unsri Students

PALEMBANG - The South Sumatra Regional Police have detained a Sriwijaya University (Unsri) lecturer as a suspect in the alleged case of student harassment.

The Director of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the South Sumatra Police Kombes Hisar Siallagan said the suspect with the initials AR (34), a lecturer at the Unsri Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) was detained for the next 20 days at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters detention house.

"Our suspect will be detained for the next 20 days," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 6.

According to Hisar, the suspect's detention was carried out to facilitate the investigation process into the alleged sexual harassment case that he committed against his female student with the initials DR (22).

In addition, he said, because the investigation process is still ongoing and it is possible that besides the victim of DR, there will be other students who are harassed by the suspect.

"So it is clear. We have detained the suspect, I have signed the warrant for his arrest. Starting this Monday at 00.00 WIB, for the next 20 days," he said.

Based on information from the police, suspect AR was named a suspect after investigators pocketed sufficient evidence from his statement which was examined intensively for nine hours from 09.00 WIB to 18.00 WIB at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters.

After the administrative process for the detention of the suspect was completed, he was led out by investigators from the investigation room of the South Sumatra Police's Sub-Directorate IV Renakta at around 19:56 WIB.

The AR suspect, who was wearing a white shirt, seemed to cover his face using a dark blue jacket to avoid the spotlight of journalists' cameras.

Investigators took the suspect with his hands without handcuffs to the Bhayangkara M Hasan Hospital in Palembang using a black minibus to take an antigen swab test before finally languishing for 20 days in the cell of the Directorate of Tahti Polda Sumsel.

In this case, the police secured evidence belonging to the victim in the form of a black bra, an undershirt, and the victim's pink outer garment.

As a result of sexual harassment, the suspect was charged with multiple articles. He is suspected of violating Article 289 of the Criminal Code on Obscenity and Acts that Attack the Honor of Morals with a sentence of seven years imprisonment.

Then Article 294 paragraph (2) points 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code concerning obscene acts with people who because of their positions are threatened with imprisonment for nine years.
