Wave Height In Anambas-Natuna Reaches 6 Meters, BMKG Reminds Fishermen And Sea Transportation To Be Alert

KEPRI - BMKG Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (Kepri) warned residents regarding wave heights, especially in Anambas and Natuna Regencies, which reached 4 to 6 meters.

"Anambas is 4 meters, and Natuna is 6 meters," said BMKG Tanjungpinang forecaster Hayu Nur Mahron, as reported by Antara, Monday, December 6.

Hayu said the wave heights on the two outer islands of Indonesia were caused by strong wind gusts, as they entered the north wind season. He predicts that this condition may last until early January 2022.

"But it is tentative, meaning that there are days when the waves are not high enough either," he said.

Meanwhile, for the other 5 regencies/cities in Riau Islands, he said, the average wave height reached 1.0 to 2.5 meters.

He appealed to fishermen, operators and users of sea transportation to remain alert to extreme weather conditions that may occur during the north wind season.

"Especially in Anambas and Natuna," he added.

He further said that light rainfall in all areas of the Riau Islands is predicted to still occur in the next few days.
