Gusdurian East Java Raise Funds For Victims Of Mount Semeru Eruption

SURABAYA - East Java's Gusdurian Peduli raised funds to be distributed to victims affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency, East Java, on Saturday (4/12) at around 15.00 WIB.

"This fundraising is a form of Gusdurian's concern for residents affected by the disaster in Lumajang," said Yuska Harimurti, Presidium of Gusdurian Cares for East Java in Surabaya, Sunday.

According to him, the general chairman of Gusdurian Peduli, A'ak Abdullah Al Qudus, who happens to live in Lumajang, will lead the fundraising in general. Gusdurian is a community of people who have a deep love for the late KH Abdurahman Wahid alias Gus Dur.

Yuska said the assistance would later be distributed to residents affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru in the Pronojiwo and Candipuro sub-districts. Some areas in the two sub-districts were covered with thick dust almost evenly.

"Residents are temporarily evacuated to a safe place," he said.

The initial needs for handling the affected victims were public kitchen needs, masks, blankets, raincoats, medicine, and vitamins as well as sleeping mats.

"We open donations that want to help victims affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru," he said.

The goods assistance can be channeled through Gusdurian Peduli Jatim in Surabaya and donations of funds can be made through BCA 8610603999 on behalf of the Gusdurian Care network.

Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto said as of Sunday at 09.20 WIB, the eruption of Mount Semeru had killed 13 people.

The eruption of Mahameru Peak also resulted in dozens of people being injured and having to undergo treatment at a number of health facilities. According to BNPB data, 41 injured people received initial treatment at the Penanggal Health Center and were then referred to the Haryoto Hospital and Bhayangkara Hospital.
