Dozens Of Residents Experience Burns Due To Fall Of Hot Clouds Eruption Of Mount Semeru
LUMAJANG - Dozens of residents were reported to have suffered burns from hot clouds from the eruption of Mount Semeru and were rushed to health centers and hospitals in Lumajang Regency, East Java.
"The temporary data recorded that there were 48 residents who suffered burns, but the data is still temporary because officers are still evacuating residents," said Head of the Lumajang Regency Health Office, Dr. Bayu Wibowo, quoted by Antara, Saturday, December 4.
According to him, residents who suffered burns, from mild to severe categories due to the eruption of Mount Semeru, were immediately referred to several health centers and hospitals in Lumajang Regency.
"If the burns are severe, then they are referred to several hospitals, namely Bhayangkara Hospital, Dr. Hariyotom Hospital, and Pasirian Hospital, while mild and moderate cases can be treated at the puskesmas," he said.
He said that on average, residents affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru suffered burns and had received treatment at health facilities.
Meanwhile, Lumajang Regent Thoriqul Haq ensured that all health centers and nearby hospitals were on standby after the eruption of Mount Semeru to anticipate victims affected by hot clouds.
"We ensure that all health centers and nearby hospitals are on standby, I make sure that the elderly, children, and pregnant women evacuate first, I hope the community will immediately evacuate to a safer place," he said.

Based on reports from volunteers in the field, several people suffered burns due to exposure to hot dust and are currently receiving treatment at health facilities.
He explained that currently joint officers from the TNI-Polri, BPBD, and volunteers are still evacuating residents and for the time being the evacuation points are focused on the Candipuro and Pronojiwo District Offices and the nearest village office.
"We are looking for safe locations to evacuate the closest residents," he said.
Based on data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Mount Semeru experienced an increase in volcanic activity by launching hot cloud avalanches towards Besuk Kobokan, Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency.
According to records compiled by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), incandescent lava avalanches were observed with a sliding distance of approximately 500-800 meters with the center of the avalanche located approximately 500 meters below the crater.
