21 Regencies/Cities Experience An Increase In COVID-19 Cases In The Last Week

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Vaccination of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that in a week there were 21 districts/cities that experienced a significant increase in cases in the past week when the Indonesian pandemic situation continued to improve.

"Although the level of the pandemic situation in Indonesia continues to improve, an increase in cases is still detected in several districts/cities. There are 21 districts/cities experiencing an increase in cases in the past week compared to last week," Nadia said at a Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) press conference quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 1 .

Those areas are Wondana Bay in West Papua; Pekanbaru City, Dumai City and Bengkalis in Riau; Bontang City in East Kalimantan; the cities of Yogyakarta, Sleman, Bantul and Gunungkidul in DI Yogyakarta; the cities of Kupang, Central Sumba, Manggarai and Nagekeo in East Nusa Tenggara; the cities of Cimahi and Majalengka in West Java; the cities of Surakarta and Karanganyar in Central Java; the cities of Denpasar and Jembrana in Bali; Mojokerto and Trenggalek in East Java.

Therefore, Nadia said there is a need to increase daily case surveillance, close contact tracing followed by tests for prevention so that the level of the pandemic situation in Indonesia does not increase.

"Preparedness is also carried out downstream by ensuring the availability of adequate isolation and intensive care facilities, including medicines and the availability of ventilators and oxygen," she explained.

The Ministry of Health also asks the public not to panic in the face of the potential variant of the COVID-19 Omicron which has been detected in 20 countries as of November 30, 2021.

However, Nadia emphasized the need to increase vigilance, one way is to ensure the implementation of health protocols even though they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
