Army Chief Of Staff Meets With Vice President Ma'ruf Amin To Discuss Papua's Security Strategy

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin received a visit from the Chief of Army Staff (KSAD), General TNI Dudung Abdurrachman, at the Vice President's Palace.

A spokesperson for Vice President Masduki Baidlowi said in the meeting Vice President Ma'ruf and General Dudung discussed security strategies in Papua.

"The vice president really appreciates the idea put forward by KSAD, which (handling Papuan security) will be carried out more humanely", said Masduki, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 1.

Masduki said that the humanistic approach in Papua is expected to attract the sympathy of the local community, thereby accelerating the security target on Earth of Cenderawasih.

"This approach has a perspective that can build an atmosphere of peace and intimacy in Papua", he said.

In addition, efforts to handle security in Papua will also be carried out through a territorial approach or by region, so that security targets can be targeted at the community.

"A territorial approach is also carried out on a basis, if at the district level there is a Kodim (Military District Command), then there is a Koramil (Military Sub-District Command) down to the Babinsa (Village Advisory Officer) level. The vice president also strongly agrees", he explained.

Masduki added that Vice President Ma'ruf Amin had similar ideas with KSAD General Dudung and TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa regarding the handling of security in Papua.

"What was stated by KSAD was indeed in line with the thoughts of the Vice President and Andika, in fact, the ideas were the same. So, the ideas of the Vice President, KSAD, and the TNI Commander are inline", Masduki explained.

The pattern of security countermeasures in Papua that Dudung describes is by approaching the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) and embracing the group like brothers.

This was done as an effort to realize a welfare and security approach for Papua.

"Building humanitarian relations has been proven by KSAD, who stated that our friends in Papua, the KKB are brothers who need to be embraced together", he said.
