2 Bicycle Thief Suspects In Madiun Arrested, One Perpetrator Admits He Needs Money For Wife's Delivery
MADIUN - The Madiun City Resort Police (Polres) team, East Java, arrested two suspects for theft of bicycles, which cost victims millions of rupiah.
The two suspects are DVY (28) and AGS (25). Both are residents of Bendo District, Magetan Regency.
"From his confession, only these two bicycles were stolen. But it is possible that they carried out the same action at several other crime scenes," said Madiun City Police Chief AKBP Putu Dewa Eka Darmawan, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 30.
According to him, the suspect took the action in mid-November. The modus operandi was that the two perpetrators rode motorbikes to residential areas to find targets for bicycles parked in front of the owner's house.
After finding the target's house and believing that the situation was quiet, the suspect grabbed two bicycles at two different locations. Each belongs to a resident of Bukur and Sukolilo villages, Jiwan sub-district.
The first bicycle stolen was the Lerun by Polygon type LRN Valcon Star. While the second type of MTB bicycle is the Elegant brand.
The police who found the report immediately examined the crime scene and questioned a number of witnesses.
"We managed to secure both of them on November 24 and 25 yesterday at their respective homes. Officers also secured stolen bicycles that the suspect had not yet had time to sell," explained Dewa.
In addition, the police also secured one unit of a motorcycle used by the suspect in the act as well as receipts for the purchase of bicycles from the two victims as evidence.
The suspects confessed to the police that they were desperate to steal because it was to fulfill their daily needs. One of the suspects even admitted to planning the cost of giving birth to his wife.
The theft incident has cost the victim around Rp. 3.9 million. For their actions, the two suspects were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code which carries a sentence of seven years in prison.
