Having Half A Million Members, Gelora Party Focuses On The 2024 Legislative Election
BADUNG - Chairman of the Indonesian People's Wave Party (Gelora) Anis Matta said the number of members of the Gelora Party is currently more than half a million people throughout Indonesia.
"The Gelora Party has more than half a million and every day about 2,000 to 3,000 new cadres are added. Now, we have 34 provinces, 514 regencies and cities and almost 90 percent of 7,235 sub-districts throughout Indonesia and 13 thousand or 13 percent of around 83,000 villages and sub-districts," said Anis Matta during a political safari and the second anniversary of the Gelora Party, at Kampoeng Seafood, Kedonganan Beach, Badung Regency, Bali, Friday, November 26.
The current number of members called Anis Matta shows the Gelora Party's ability to build communication. Gelora is said to have received a good response.
"So thank God we broke down the wall. That is, we remove the barriers that have been preventing us from communicating with people, because of ideological factors, religious factors, past or ethnic heritage factors and so on," he continued.
In the future, the Gelora Party will focus on the 2024 legislative election. Gelora has not yet thought about preparing for the presidential election.
"Right now, we haven't thought about the presidential election, we focus first on the legislative election. We hope that there will actually be a separation between the legislative and presidential elections so that the burden of successive elections can be more manageable," said Anis Matta.
It is targeted that Gelora will be able to penetrate the parliamentary threshold so that it can place its members in the DPR. But it is hoped that the parliamentary threshold can be abolished
"We still hope that it is time to remove this threshold. Both the threshold for the presidential election and for the legislative election," he said
Meanwhile, Gelora Deputy Chairperson Fahri Hamzah said the Gelora Party was still in the process of building the party.
"The way we build a party is not a new science, the knowledge is already known to the public. We first strengthen the structure, increase the number and then we will test whether the people are interested or not," he said.
Regarding the legislative elections, Gelora prepares the candidates who will compete in their respective constituencies.
"(To target) this party, the national party, we think the whole region will accept us, the evidence is in Bali, in Papua, we are quite strong," said Fahri.
