Admits Banning Anies From Using Monas And GBK As Formula E Circuits, Bamsoet Values Ancol As The Most Suitable

JAKARTA - The DKI Provincial Government has prepared five choices of locations for the Formula E circuit. General Chairperson of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo as the organizing committee assesses that the most appropriate location is the Ancol area.

"Of the five selected locations, namely Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area, JIEXPO Kemayoran, the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area, the most appropriate is the Ancol area", said Bamsoet in his statement, Friday, November 26.

Bamsoet also admitted that he had prohibited DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan from choosing the National Monument (Monas) and GBK Stadium as the circuit options for the electric car racing event.

The chairman of the MPR RI explained that not just any location can be used as a Formula E circuit. Because Formula E has its own uniqueness compared to other similar races because it uses a highway in the middle of the city.

The construction must not interfere with the existing structure. For example, changing or moving an existing building. Moreover, to cut trees and damage the environment.

"Therefore, it requires complex specialized skills. IMI plays a very important role there, ensuring that the selected circuit location will be further developed to comply with FEO standards and also Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile/FIA standards", said Bamsoet.

Furthermore, Bamsoet explained, according to FIA regulations, the maximum width of the Formula E track is 12 meters. However, some tracks have a track width of only 8 meters or less. The length of the track is a minimum of 2 to 3 km, considering that Formula E usually covers a distance of 80 to 90 km.

"The length of the pit lane is at least 200 meters for a minimum of 15 paddocks with a width of one paddock of about 15 meters. In addition, the location of the area for vehicle battery charging, hospitality, medical centers (medical centers), and others must also be made according to FIA standards", he explained.

For information, Formula E is scheduled to be held on June 4, 2022. Formula E license holder, Chief Championship Formula E Operations (FEO) Alberto Longo has arrived in Jakarta to survey five alternative circuit locations. After that, FEO, BUMD PT Jakpro, and IMI made a study to determine the most appropriate location for the circuit.
