SMRC Survey: People Believe Jokowi Can Handle Economic Crisis
JAKARTA - The survey institute Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) released a survey about public confidence in the government's ability to handle the economic crisis impacted by COVID-19. As a result, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is still trusted to handle the crisis.
SMRC researcher Saidiman Ahmad stated that 79 percent of respondents said they believed President Jokowi was able to bring Indonesia out of the economic crisis.
Meanwhile, 20 percent of respondents said they did not believe Jokowi was able to overcome the economic crisis, and 1.7 percent said they did not know or did not answer.
"The majority of citizens strongly or sufficiently believe that the president is capable of bringing Indonesia out of the economic crisis caused by COVID-19," said SMRC researcher Saidiman Ahmad in an online survey presentation, Sunday, August 9.
Saidiman explained the survey results with the same questions in the previous survey period, namely July 22-24 and July 15-18.
In the survey spanning July 22-24, 77 percent of respondents said they believed President Jokowi was able to bring Indonesia out of the economic crisis. As many as 19 percent of respondents did not believe it, and 4 percent said they did not know or did not answer.
In the July 15-18 survey, 78 percent of respondents said they believed President Jokowi was able to bring Indonesia out of the economic crisis. Meanwhile 18 percent did not believe it, and 3 percent said they did not know or did not answer.
"This assessment is quite stable in the last three months," Saidiman said.
Meanwhile, the third survey was conducted from 29 July to 1 August 2020 to 1,978 respondents. The margin of error in this survey is 2.9 percent with a confidence level of 95 percent.
The survey was conducted by contacting respondents by telephone. These respondents are people who have been surveyed in the previous period.
