Champions League Results: Edin Dzeko's Brace Ensures Nerazzurri Qualified For Last 16

JAKARTA - Edin Dzeko's brace helped Inter Milan beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 in the Champions League Group D match at the Guiseppe Meazza Stadium on Thursday morning.

Launching Antara, the first chance of the match was created by Inter in the 11th minute. Nicolo Barella got the ball in the penalty box, which he then kicked towards the goal. However, the ball still bounced over the bar.

The home team again threatened in the 24th minute. Andrea Ranocchia heads a corner into the net but his header still doesn't reach Shakhtar's goal.

A minute later, Inter had scored a goal through Edin Dzeko's kick in the penalty box after using Matteo Darmian's bait.

However, the referee disallowed the goal because Darmian had been offside before sending the ball.

The match had heated up after Inter striker Lautaro Martinez was brought down by Marlon in the penalty box. However, the referee did not point to the white spot for the incident.

Inter continued to pound Shakhtar's backline to break the deadlock, but their efforts didn't pay off until the break.

The first half closed with a score 0-0.

After the break, the home team did not relax their attack.

In the 48th minute, Inter threatened with a shot on target Ivan Perisic. Unfortunately, Shakhtar goalkeeper, Anatoli Trubin still spry to catch the ball.

Inter broke the deadlock in the 57th minute. Lautaro Martinez met a cross in the penalty box with a volley that ripped through Trubin's goal.

However, the goal was deemed invalid because Lautaro had pushed Mykola Matviyenko before kicking the ball. The standings still haven't changed to 0-0.

Inter finally actually scored in the 61st minute. Edin Dzeko grabbed the ball gag near the edge of the halfway line and made it 1-0.

Five minutes later, Inter doubled their lead. Dzeko broke into Shakhtar's goal again, this time with a header that met Ivan Perisic's cross. The position is 2-0.

Shakhtar tried to reduce the position in the rest of the game. In the 82nd minute, Fernando's low shot hit the post against Handanovic's Inter.

No additional goals were created until the referee blew the long whistle. The match ended in Inter's 2-0 win.

With 10 points, Inter is certain to qualify for the last 16 because in the other match Real Madrid managed to beat Sheriff Tiraspol 3-0.

Los Blancos remain top with 12 points, while the Sheriff is in third place with 6 points. Meanwhile, Shakhtar Donetsk has been eliminated from the Champions League after only collecting one point from five matches.
