Erick Thohir Optimistic Of Indonesia To Become The World Maritime Axis

JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Thohir revealed that Indonesia has the potential to become the world's maritime axis by building a maritime culture.

"Indonesia as the largest archipelagic country in the world has the potential to become the world's maritime axis. One of the pillars to realize the world's maritime axis lies in our ability to build maritime culture itself, whether it's the management of marine resources, infrastructure development which is very important at this time, and of course also connectivity rather than maritime to become the world's maritime axis," said Erick Thohir at an online seminar in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, November 24.

According to the Minister of SOEs, the concept of the sea toll is in line with the Nawacita of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi), in which SOEs receive direction from him for the vision of Indonesia 2045.

Construction and development of infrastructure that connects production to distribution from the West to the East of Indonesia.

"Of course, as a third of Indonesia's economic strength, God willing, SOEs are ready to carry out this mandate in order to achieve the ideals of an independent and sovereign Indonesia," said Erick.

One of them, he continued, by maintaining connectivity from Sabang to Merauke, of course this is in line with the high complexity that the world is currently facing towards 2022.

Erick Thohir also added that the logistics industry faces many challenges, related to the vulnerabilities of global supply chains that are now being felt where containers are very short.

"The global trade policy that was conveyed yesterday by the President of the Republic of Indonesia during the G20 regarding supply chains, this also greatly affects where we are also asked to send our natural resources abroad as much as possible. That is indeed something that we must certainly balance and like the President of the Republic of Indonesia, we must fight, we are not anti-foreign, but it is important for us to ensure that our market is as our economic growth. Our natural resources are for our economic growth," he said.

Of course, this, said Erick, is because of the pressure, there is a global shock where commodity prices are currently getting higher, this needs to be anticipated so that Indonesia is not ready and in the end gets the current global shock.
