2020 Seoul International Drama Awards Announce Nominations
JAKARTA - Nominations for the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA) were announced on Thursday, August 6. A total of 28 plays and 26 individual categories competed for this award.
There are 4 categories included in the SDA 2020 award, namely TV Movie, Mini series, Drama Series, and Short Form. For individual categories, there are Best Director, Best Screenwriter, Best Actor, and Best Actress. Here are the complete nominations:
At this year's awards, South Korean dramas and television series dominated the nominees. Some of them are When the Camellia Blooms from KBS, Hot Stove League from SBS, Crash Landing on You from tvN, and Itaewon Class from JTBC.
In addition, the 2020 SDA nominations have diversity in the selection of stories, such as Human Luwak from Korea and Grumpy Olaf from Germany which tells about family life.
Then there is Ottilie von Faber-Castell from Germany who tells the life of German society in the 19th century. There is also the drama World on Fire from England with a war background.
Not only that, but most of the nominations focus on a strong female lead. For example, the character Dongbaek in the drama When the Camellia Blooms.
There are several dramas that are adaptations of content in South Korea such as the Philippine version of Descendants of the Sun which has been nominated. Likewise Snowpiercer from the United States.
“This year, the female characters in the drama series are amazing. Like When the Camellia Blooms, there are many independent and strong female protagonists that can be seen through the rural character Ongsan, "said the representative of SDA 2020 as quoted by Hello K-Pop.
