Google Cancels Pixel Fold Launch Due To Intense Competition
JAKARTA - Later rumors suggested that Google was reportedly working on its own foldable phone under the Pixel brand, but the latest claims state that the phone failed to launch.
The tech giant is no longer planning to launch a foldable phone dubbed the Pixel Fold on the market. Most likely, Google is not confident enough because the device will not be as competitive as needed with other similar phones.
The company also has to fight big brands like Samsung in the United States (US) and Europe. The Pixel Fold itself is said to feature a design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
However, according to a report from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) if you look at the current situation of the mobile market, Google seems to have problems with their supply chain, therefore Google has decided not to bring the Pixel Fold to the market.
Reporting from BGR, Wednesday, November 17, previously, the foldable device would be launched alongside the Pixel 6, but then the plans have changed. The Pixel Fold won't launch until 2022.
The Pixel Fold will feature the same OLED screen that Samsung used on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and an Ultra Thing Glass (UTG) panel. The Pixel Fold will also get an increase in battery life.
In addition, Google has also been working on optimizing Android for foldable devices. Android 12L is an update that will supposedly adapt the OS to better suit devices with larger, or foldable screens. This is proof that Google is working on a Pixel Fold device.
