Surabaya Residents Asked To Beware Of High Rainfall

SURABAYA - Deputy Mayor of Surabaya, Armuji, appealed to residents of the "City of Heroes", East Java, to increase their vigilance to anticipate heavy rainfall in the next few days.

"We hope that the residents of Surabaya will remain alert to this unfriendly weather", he said while monitoring the Tambak Wedi Pumping House, Surabaya, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 16,

Armuji said the weather in the Surabaya area has recently become difficult to predict and it often rains.

According to the weather forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) this Tuesday, the city of Surabaya will experience heavy rain accompanied by lightning.

"The activities of the people of Surabaya seem to be a little disturbed by the rain", he said.

Therefore, Armuji inspected several floodgates, including the Tambak Wedi Sluice Gate.

In rainy conditions, Armuji wears a red raincoat and carries a handy talky (HT) to monitor the water level at the floodgates.

"Please remove the stuck garbage immediately, so there is no blockage of water that will be pumped into the sea", said Armuji to the pump house officer.

While in the vicinity of the floodgate, Armuji saw several small children playing around the pump house.

Armuji then appealed to the child to be more careful not to play around the river.

"Come on son, don't play here it's dangerous. Come home soon", said Armuji.

In addition, Armuji also ensures that pump house operations in Surabaya can work optimally during this rainy season.

"The channel for disposal is ensured to run smoothly until the pump. We are working hard in these months to minimize inundation", he said.
