Avoid Raging Residents, Panic Snatches To Jump To Ciliwung River
JAKARTA - A mobile phone snatcher was desperate to throw himself into the Ciliwung River, Tebet District, South Jakarta. The reckless action was carried out because of panic and to avoid the angry residents of his actions.
However, the perpetrator's attempts to escape failed. Apparently the residents had already surrounded the area so that the perpetrator was caught while in the Ciliwung river flow in the Jatinegara District, East Jakarta.
It should be noted that the location of the incident where the perpetrator threw himself was a border area between South Jakarta and East Jakarta.
The suspect thought that he had managed to escape the pursuit of residents. However, he was caught by a resident across the river, namely a resident of Jatinegara. After being evacuated to the riverbank, the perpetrator was immediately attacked by a mob waiting on the edge of the Ciliwung River, Jatinegara District.
Luckily, the perpetrator's life was saved by the Jatinegara Police who arrived at the scene. The perpetrator was taken to the Jatinegara Police for examination.
The Head of Jatinegara Police, Kompol Yusuf Suhadma, confirmed the arrest of the person who snatched the cellphone. However, because the location of the incident was in the Tebet area, his party transferred the case to the Tebet Police.
"We have arrested the perpetrator who is suspected of snatching. Because he was being chased by the masses, he threw him into the Ciliwung River," the police chief told reporters, Tuesday, November 16.
The perpetrator had undergone an examination at the Jatinegara Police Headquarters for his actions. According to the witness' testimony to the police, the perpetrator grabbed the gun and was chased by the locals. Then plunged into the river.
"We examined the perpetrators and handed them over to the Tebet Police. Since the location of the incident is in the South Jakarta area, we will hand it over to the Tebet Police," he said.
Confirmed separately, Tebet Police Chief Kompol Alexander Yurikho confirmed the transfer of cases from the Jatinegara Police.
"Yes, Criminal Investigation personnel have picked up from (Polsek) Jatinegara. The case is being handled by the Tebet Police, currently still being investigated," he said when confirmed by VOI, Tuesday, November 16, afternoon.
