BANYUWANGI - The man with the initials M (42) was arrested by the Kalipuro Police, Banyuwangi, East Java. The perpetrators attempted to steal a car parked in a local residential area.
Kapolsek Kalipuro Iptu Hadi Waluyo said the arrest stemmed from a report from the car owner, Sahwiyah (40).
"We received the report on Monday, November 15," said Iptu Hadi, Tuesday, November 16.
Based on the testimony of witnesses, the theft was carried out by the perpetrators in the early hours of the morning at around 01.45 WIB. The thief at that time almost stole Daihatsu Ayla's car.
However, because the car alarm sounded, the victim's child who happened to be sleeping in the living room woke up immediately.
"The victim's child at that time saw the right side of the car door was open. So he immediately shouted to wake his mother who then reported it to the police," said Hadi.
Hearing reports from residents, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kalipuro Police immediately headed to the location. It didn't take long for the police to arrest the perpetrator.
Based on the perpetrator's information, the car theft was planned. 10 days before the incident. The perpetrator stole the ignition key of the victim's car that was inside the house.
"Before committing the act of theft of the car, first he carried out the theft at the complainant's house by gouging out the side window of the house, and managed to bring the victim's two Daihatsu Ayla ignition keys along with the vehicle registration," said Hadi.
But at that time, the perpetrator could not take the victim's car away because the car battery was removed by the owner.
"Then on Monday, November 15, 2021, the suspect Misanto again committed theft by bringing a GS battery and 3 wrenches," said Hadi.
Before the car was taken away, the owner heard the sound of the car alarm. At the same time, the perpetrator fled.
"Even though we had time to escape, we managed to secure one of the perpetrators," said Hadi.
The attempted theft was carried out by two people. Currently, the perpetrators managed to catch one perpetrator, and another person is still being sought.
