Surabaya Mayor Initiates A Bung Karno Statue Design Competition, Prizes Are Tens Of Millions Rupiah

SURABAYA - Deputy Mayor of Surabaya, East Java, Armuji paid tribute to the services of the founding fathers of Indonesia by holding a competition to design a statue of the first Indonesian President Soekarno or Bung Karno.

"Participants will be able to find the right location and good design," said Vice Mayor Armuji in Surabaya, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 15.

According to Armuji, Surabaya as a City of Heroes has a long history in the struggle for independence. Bung Karno was born on Jalan Peneleh Gang Pandean IV, Number 40, Peneleh Village, Genteng District, Surabaya City.

"Surabaya residents are also proud to have a figure who is admired on the international stage," said Armuji.

He explained that the growth and progress of the city of Surabaya must also pay attention to historical and cultural aspects as a form of implementing development that has a personality in culture.

In addition, continued Armuji, his party is currently preparing the technical implementation of the Bung Karno statue design competition.

Regarding the technical implementation, he continued, it will be announced in the near future.

"It will be announced as soon as possible. We want Surabaya as the City of Heroes and the hometown of the proclaimer to be more firmly attached to the minds of the people. Moreover, many cities have built Bung Karno Statues," he said.

The Deputy Mayor of Surabaya also emphasized that the prize for the Bung Karno statue design competition was worth tens of millions of rupiah.
