JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, visited the Kampung Mandar area, Boom Marina Beach, Banyuwangi, East Java. Apart from reviewing vaccinations, Puan also visited the local fish market which sells a variety of fresh seafood.
"Wow, this is delicious with bamboo shells. The squid is also fresh. How much is this lobster?" asked Puan while walking around, Friday 12 November.
"It's really fresh fish that is sold here. On average it comes early this morning before dawn," answered a number of fishermen.
During the visit, Puan was accompanied by Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, and Regent of Banyuwangi Ipuk Fiestiandani, and members of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
After she was satisfied walking around, Puan immediately visited the fishermen who were practicing sewing net buoys. He did not hesitate to try to join the practice.
"Wow, it's so hard, the needles fall down," laughed Puan while laughing out loud.
In addition, Puan also saw various processed seafood products made by the Banyuwangi women's group. There are dimsum, shrimp paste, various chili sauce, shredded, and various seafood chips.

On that occasion, Puan really appreciated the clean Kampun Mandar area. Moreover, here also provides food service of various types of fish that are directly cooked.
"Creative, here there is a fish market that can be cooked immediately. And this model, the multiplier effect is good. There are vegetable sellers involved, fisherwomen can become cooks, who get more economic benefits," said Puan.
Meanwhile, Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani said, Puan Maharani had provided motivation and direction to continue strengthening the downstreaming of marine products by empowering MSMEs.
“Earlier, Mrs. Puan immediately asked us to intensify income diversification for fishermen by downstreaming processed seafood. Mrs. Puan paid special attention because this step would greatly help the fishermen's families, including involving women's groups. We will boost the program,” said Ipuk excitedly.
