The Ministry Of Finance's Directorate General Of Taxes Regrets And Concerns His Employees Are Affected By Bribery Cases

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) regrets and is very concerned about cases of accepting bribes by unscrupulous employees.

"This should not have happened because every employee has been provided with a code of ethics, code of conduct, and an organizational culture that does not tolerate such actions," said Director of Counseling, Services and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, Neilmaldrin Noor, quoted from Antara, Friday, November 12.

This follows the arrest of the suspect Wawan Ridwan (WR) by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on November 10, 2021.

WR received around 625 thousand Singapore dollars in the alleged bribery case related to tax audits in 2016 and 2017 when he served as Supervisor of the Tax Auditor Team at the Directorate of Tax Audit and Collection of the Ministry of Finance.

WR has been announced as a suspect since November 4, 2021, and this detention is not a new case but a continuation of the legal process for the bribery case that has been processed by the KPK since early 2021, namely the suspects APA and DR.

In addition to the detention of WR, the KPK also named an employee of the DGT with the initials AS who at that time served as the Head of the Tax Auditor Team at the Directorate of Audit and Collection as a suspect.

DGT supports efforts to eradicate corruption through collaboration with various parties, both Law Enforcement Officials (APH) and the community.

"This support is a form of synergy, cooperation, and DGT's commitment in eradicating corruption," said Neil.

Neil said WR had also been relieved of his duties, with the next staffing process awaiting a legal decision on the case.

This is implemented in accordance with the provisions as stipulated in Government Regulation Number 53 of 2010 concerning Civil Servant Discipline.

Regarding the potential for state revenues that have not been deposited, the Ministry of Finance has formed a special team to follow up in accordance with the provisions of the applicable tax laws and regulations.

This audit team involves functional tax auditors, tax assessors, internal compliance elements, and the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Finance with the KPK who also provide the information needed in this audit process.

DGT also urges taxpayers and the entire community to comply with taxes and not offer any form of compensation related to the fulfillment of tax obligations to DGT employees.

Neil emphasized that if there are DGT employees who promise convenience regarding the fulfillment of tax obligations with certain rewards, the public can immediately report it.
