5 Crew Members Of A Ship That Sank In The Waters Of The Malacca Strait Were Found Safe
TANJUNGPINANG - Five crew members of the KLM Firman Jaya ship that sank in the waters of the Malacca Strait or not far from the waters of Tanjung Balai Karimun, Riau Islands, were found safe.
"The victim has been evacuated to the Tanjung Balai Karimun Port Health Quarantine Office," said Head of the Tanjungpinang SAR Office, Slamet Riyadi, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 10.
The five victims were Heriyanto, Aldi Satria, Alvi Juanda, Andi Rizky, and Rusmadi Syaputra.
Slamet explained the chronology of the incident when the KLM Firman Jaya ship sank while sailing from the Guntung River to Batu Pahat with 180 tons of coconut loaded.
Due to unfavorable weather, he said, it is suspected that the wooden ship was hit by a storm so that it sank.

Luckily at that time, a SPOB Tirta Samudra XX ship passed, so the crew members were rescued and rescued at around 15.00 western Indonesia time.
"Our communications officer received information on the ship accident from Mei Heriyanto, the Captain of the SPOB Tirta Samudra XX ship," said Slamet.
After receiving the information, he continued, the Tanjung Balai Karimun Search and Rescue Post Rescue Team together with the Joint SAR Team moved to Karimun Waters at coordinates 1 00.00 N 103 31,500 E using a Speed Boat belonging to KSOP Tanjung Balai Karimun and a Polairud Speed Boat, around 16.00 western Indonesia time.
Then at around 17.30 western Indonesia time, the joint team arrived in Karimun waters and immediately carried out the rescue of the five crew members.
"With the discovery of the victim, the SAR operation for the shipwreck is officially closed," said Slamet.
