National Police Chief: Heroes Day Is Momentum Of Indonesia To Rise From Pandemic

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said this year's Hero's Day was momentum for Indonesia to rise up to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, like the heroes who have fought for independence from the hands of the invaders.

"The spirit of the struggle of the previous heroes of the Indonesian nation must be implemented by the current generation of the nation. By fighting and uniting, we must believe, Indonesia can quickly rise in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic," General Sigit said in a written statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 10.

The National Police Chief said that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was felt by Indonesia in the health and economic sectors. However, the spirit of unity and integrity of all elements of the nation, at this time, Indonesia has risen from adversity.

The participation of all parties involved in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, said Sigit, has brought Indonesia to the first rank in Southeast Asia in suppressing the growth rate of COVID-19.

"With the fighters and heroes present in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, all challenges and obstacles can be overcome together. This makes us more optimistic to be able to win against the coronavirus," said General Sigit.

General Sigit is optimistic that this achievement will strengthen and convince in the eyes of the world that Indonesia is able to carry out national and international activities while still paying attention to security and health factors.

According to him, the implementation of these activities will have a positive impact on Indonesia's economic growth.

The National Police Chief said that all Indonesians can become heroes by playing an active role in handling and controlling COVID-19.

"All people today can become heroes for Indonesia by working together and hand in hand in handling and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic," said Sigit.

On this Hero's Day moment, the National Police Chief also expressed his appreciation to the health workers (nakes), TNI, Polri, volunteers, and all other elements of society who continue to fight at the forefront of dealing with COVID-19. According to Sigit, they are the current Heroes.

"Thank you to the health workers, the ranks of the TNI, Polri, volunteers, students, and all stakeholders who have played a role in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. You are today's national heroes," said Sigit.

General Sigit also asked all Indonesian people to continue to respect the services of the heroes who preceded and freed the Indonesian nation.

He quoted Soekarno's sentence "Never forget history (Jas Merah)". "We don't forget to follow the character of the heroes by fighting for Indonesia from all fields," said the National Police Chief.
