The Vice President Asks For A Halal Industrial Estate To Be Present In Gresik

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin encouraged the Gresik Regency Government to immediately build a halal industrial area (KIH) to support the development of the Islamic economic and financial ecosystem in Indonesia.

This was conveyed by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin directly to Gresik Regent Fandi Akhmad Yani during an audience at the vice president's official residence in Jakarta, Tuesday 9 November.

"I think we (the central government) are indeed encouraging the growth of KIH. That is indeed a government program and one of the focuses of our Islamic economic and financial development," said the Vice President as in a statement from the Secretariat's Bureau of Press, Media and Information (BPMI) received in Jakarta , Wednesday 10 November quoted from Antara

The Vice President explained that one of the Government's focuses in developing the Islamic economy and finance is to strengthen the domestic halal product industry.

The strengthening of the domestic halal product industry must be supported by the implementation of halal industrial areas in every industrial area in various regions.

"Although there is already a KIH Safe n Lock Sidoarjo in East Java, I don't think it's okay to develop a KIH in Gresik," he added.

Therefore, Ma'ruf Amin asked Fandi Akhmad Yani to immediately coordinate with the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa regarding the KIH development plan in Gresik.

"The important thing, I think, is coordination with the governor. If you meet the requirements, then go to the Ministry of Industry to get the legality," the vice president ordered.

Meanwhile, Fandi said the Gresik Regency Government would cooperate with PT Petrokimia Gresik and PT Semen Gresik in the framework of the construction of KIH in Gresik.

"The cooperation is asking BUMD and BUMDes which will supply products to KIH. Later the target is for export, we happen to have communicated with several exporters from abroad," explained Fandi.

One of the halal products that will be developed at KIH Gresik is beef processing, from slaughtering animals to meat packaging, for export to various Muslim countries.

"So later KIH will take the cattle from Brazil, then slaughter and market them back to neighboring countries and the Middle East," he said.
