BPBD Aceh Besar Evacuates Dozens Of Tourists Trapped In River Current

BANDA ACEH - The Aceh Besar Regional Disaster Management Agency evacuated 32 local tourists who were trapped by river currents due to heavy rains from the Kuta Malaka waterfall tourist site, Aceh Besar Regency.

"We have evacuated visitors from the Kuta Malaka waterfall who were trapped by the river currents last night," said Pusdalops officer Maswani, in Aceh Besar, quoted by Antara, Monday, November 8.

Maswani said that 32 tourists who were trapped by the river current and evacuated came from the area of Aceh Besar and Banda Aceh City. In addition, dozens of motorcycles were also trapped.

"A total of 17 motorcycle units could not be evacuated because of the high water discharge and the swift current of the river," he said.

Maswani said that visitors to the waterfall tour were trapped by the river when they were about to return home on Sunday, November 7 at around 16.30 WIB, but because the river water flow was rising with strong currents, motorbikes could not pass it.

"Rain conditions made the water flow high and heavy, so that visitors to the waterfall tour were trapped until the evening, and they could not cross the river to return," he said.

After receiving the information, Maswani continued, Aceh Besar BPBD officers immediately went to the scene with the support of 10 personnel and one BPBD rescue car.

"Arriving at the scene of the incident, the officers immediately evacuated visitors to the waterfall tour and were taken to the gathering point at the Kuta Malaka Police Sector for data collection," said Maswani.
