Holding PSG's Messi T-shirt, Erick Thohir Explores BUMN Investment Cooperation With Qatar
JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir explored a number of investment cooperation with Qatar during his visit to the Middle Eastern country.
In a meeting with the Minister of SOEs, the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) said that he was impressed with the potential and development of business in Indonesia, especially in the fields of tourism and energy.
"Thank God, the meeting resulted in a number of important points, one of which is QIA's (Qatar Investment Authority) interest in investing in tourism, energy, and others," said Erick Thohir in a written statement quoted by Antara, Sunday, November 7.
SOE Minister Erick Thohir continued his work visit to Qatar, Sunday, November 7. During the visit, Erick Thohir held a meeting with Sheikh Faishal Bin Thani Al Thani, Chief of Asia-Pacific & Africa Investments at Qatar Investment Authority (QIA).
The world's largest investment institution and shareholder of the Paris Saint Germain football club (PSG) expressed interest in investing in Indonesia.
According to Erick Thohir, Qatar is very impressed with the development that Indonesia has continued to do over the past few years under the leadership of President Joko Widodo.
With the potential of Indonesia's natural resources and human resources, investors believe in investing. This trust is proof that Indonesia has all the prerequisites to continue to grow both in terms of quality and quantity of the economy.
"This shows how big Indonesia's potential is in the eyes of the world. Of course, business cooperation is built on the principle of mutual trust and respect. Of course, the main principle of cooperation is that it is not only calculated from the financial side, but also has an impact on human development," he said.
During his visit to Qatar, Erick Thohir also took the time to meet with Qatari Minister of Defense Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah. This meeting continued the initial meeting that was knitted by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.
"The meeting with the Minister of Defense of Qatar Dr. Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, as a follow-up to the cooperation between Pindad and Barzan Holding Qatar, which has been knitted by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo," said Erick.

The meeting of the two Ministers resulted in a joint commitment to advancing the Indonesian defense industry.
“Alhamdulillah, in this meeting Barzan expressed his commitment to cooperate with Pindad to advance the Indonesian defense industry. Barzan stated that this collaboration will not only be a business, but also include technology transfer and the development of Pindad human resources so that they can compete in the global value chain," said the Minister of SOEs.
The visit to Qatar is a continuation of Erick Thohir's safari to a number of countries. Previously, Erick accompanied the president at the G20 forum in Rome.
Followed by a meeting in Glasgow Scotland to attend COP26. The visit continued to the United Arab Emirates to attend a bilateral meeting between Indonesia and the Kingdom of the UAE.
