Tommy Suharto's Land Was Confiscated By The State, How Much Is The Wealth Of Former President Suharto's Youngest Son?

JAKARTA - The BLBI Task Force confiscated assets belonging to former President Suharto's youngest son, Hutomo Mandala Putra alias Tommy Suharto, in the form of 124 hectares of land in the Dawuan area, Karawang Regency, West Java, Friday.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, said that Tommy Suharto leased 124 hectares of land assets as collateral to the state through Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI).

Therefore, the BLBI Task Force sent a team and security forces to confiscate the assets guaranteed by PT Timor Putra Nasional (TPN) in the form of a 124-hectare land that was previously guaranteed by Tommy Suharto to the state.

"However, it turned out that it was still being rented out and rented to the same, so now we are confiscated and will soon be renamed in the name of the state and we have the documents", said Mahfud in his statement, in Jakarta, Friday.

The Chairperson of the BLBI Task Force emphasized that assets pledged to the state by debtors or obligors receiving BLBI funds should not be rented, sold, or transferred to other parties before being able to pay off their debts.

"If the debt has not been (paid off), don't try to sell it, rent it out or transfer it to another party, that's not allowed", said Mahfud.

Tommy Suharto, based on the list of Indonesia's richest people released by Globe Asia in 2018, is estimated to have a wealth of USD 670 million or IDR 9.7 trillion.

His wealth mainly comes from the Humpuss Group which owns several hotels. Tommy Suharto is listed as the 60th richest person in Indonesia as well as Suharto's richest son.

Despite having a wealth that exceeds the BLBI bill, Tommy Suharto chose not to pay off his debts until there had to be confiscation of the land as collateral.
