Flash Flood In Batu City, Two Residents Died

JAKARTA - Flash floods have hit Batu City, East Java since Thursday, November 4. Two people were found dead in the disaster.

"As of Friday at 06.00 a.m., the death toll has increased to 2 people. Meanwhile, 5 people were found safe and 6 people who were reported missing are still being searched," said Abdil Muhari, Acting Head of the National Disaster Management Committee for Disaster Management, Abdil Muhari, in his statement, Friday, November 5.

Floods were recorded to have affected six villages in Bumiaji District with details covering Sumber Brantas Village, Bulu Kerto Village, Tulung Rejo Village, Padang Rejo Village, Sido Mulyo Village, and Punten Village.

As for the material damage caused by this flash flood, 17 houses were damaged, 28 motorcycles were damaged, 3 cars were damaged, 8 livestock were swept away by the swift current of the river, and 6 livestock cages were heavily damaged.

Abdul Muhari said, currently a joint team from Batu City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), National Armed Force (TNI), National Police (Polri), and related regional work units (SKPD) continues to make efforts to accelerate the handling of flash floods disaster.

The handling of the joint team focused on searching, helping, and cleaning up the remaining mud and other debris.

"Other joint teams have also sought refugee camps and logistics distribution for residents affected by flash floods. The weather conditions at the location are reported to be sunny and cloudy," he explained.
