Banda Aceh's Ulee Lheue Beach Polluted By Coal Spills

BANDA ACEH - Ulee Lheue Beach, Banda Aceh City, began to be polluted with coal, which is thought to have come from a barge spill, which was then carried by the current to the beach.

"It is suspected that the coal was shipped from a barge that was parked in the Ulee Lheue sea and was carried by the current," said Secretary-General of the Gampong Development Institute (GDI) Aceh Rahmi Fajri, in Banda Aceh, quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 4.

Rahmi said that based on his side's monitoring, the coal had been carried to Ulee Lheue beach for about a week, but it was not cleaned because it was not yet known.

According to Rahmi, the spread of coal will have an impact on the damage to marine life, it can cause the death of coral reefs.

"Because of the acid that comes out of the coal, it has a huge impact on the damage to marine life," he said.

Rahmi urged the government to immediately intervene to deal with this coal problem, especially since the beach is included in a conservation area.

In addition, Rahmi also asked related parties to carry out investigations related to the coal spill, so that it does not have a worse impact on the ecosystem and environmental pollution.

"If proven, then sanctions must be given to the company that transports the coal," said Rahmi.

Meanwhile, the confirmed Head of DLHK3 Banda Aceh Hamdani admitted that he did not know about the coal spill.

"Coal, we don't know that yet," said Hamdani.

However, his party will also check the news of the coal spill.
