Exploding Cake Making Machine, Natural Couple Burns

JAKARTA - A fire occurred in a residential area on Jalan Kalibata Utara V, RT 12/02, Kelurahan Kalibata, Kecamatan Pancoran, South Jakarta. A total of 16 fire engines were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire.

According to a statement from the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-department picket officer, Sukur Sarwono, the fire was triggered when the lights went out. When the lights went out, a resident named Riri (30) turned on the milling machine to make cakes.

"Then there was an explosion accompanied by fire from the kitchen. Riri ran out of her house and screamed for help," Sukur told reporters, Tuesday, November 2.

Residents who heard Riri's screams immediately helped put out the fire with makeshift tools. Then residents contacted the fire department.

Arriving at the scene, as many as 75 firefighters tried to extinguish the fire. The fire was successfully extinguished.

"Two house owners had burns. The two victims were Riri Saras Wati (30) and Heru Santoso (35). Both were husband and wife (couple). The victims were evacuated to Siloam Hospital, Duren Tiga," he said.

Confirmed separately, Pancoran Sub-district Head Risky M Adhari Jusal said the fire had hit two houses belonging to Heru (the source of the fire) and Salim (60). The fire came from the rented house inhabited by Heru.

"Based on information from Salim, the resident's house was on fire, there was an explosion from the house where Heru lived. The victim suffered serious burns," he said.
