JAKARTA - The Institute for Democracy and Affluance Studies (IDEAS) Research Institute conducted a study related to the potential for the sacrificial economy in 2025. As a result, there was a decrease in the projection of the number of sacrifices this year compared to last 2024.
"In 2024 there are around 2.16 million victims, while in 2025 the number is around 1.92 million victims. This means that there has been a potential decline of around 233,000 sacrificers in the past year," said IDEAS researcher Tira Mutiara in a written statement, Thursday, May 29.
"In addition, we also project the potential value of Indonesia's sacrificial economy in 2025 of IDR 27.1 trillion. This projection also decreased from the projection of the previous year (2024) which was estimated to reach IDR 28.3 trillion," he continued.
Tira said, as many as 1.92 million Muslim households with high purchasing power have the potential to become sacrifices by 2025. The largest need for sacrificial animals comes from sheep or goats of around 1.1 million, while the cattle are around 503,000.
In fact, according to him, if it is pulled further back, the estimated number of sacrifices in 2025 is even lower than during the pandemic which ranged from 2.11 million sacrificers in 2021, and 2.17 million sacrificers (2022).
According to him, this happened because of a decline in society in the middle class and even the upper class, which has the potential to become a sacrifice this year.
"It is exacerbated again by inadequate policies from the state to maintain the middle and upper class. This is what distinguishes this year's difficult times from the pandemic," he said.
Although the crisis during the pandemic scaled much bigger than this year, at that time the decline in economic activity was evenly distributed globally. However, the fall of the middle class at that time was helped by the maintenance of the financial sector, massive economic stimulus and a very significant increase in commodity prices.
"Meanwhile, the current crisis is driven a lot by the fall of the labor-intensive manufacturing industry sector causing a massive phenomenon of layoffs (PHK) from 2024 to May 2025. and the high unemployment in Indonesia that occurs contributes greatly to the main factor in reducing the sacrificer by 2025," explained Tira.
Despite the decline in the potential for the sacrificial economy in recent years, sacrificial worship still has great potential as a trigger for the revival of the national livestock sector.
In the main mission of Asta Cita President Prabowo Subianto, livestock has a strategic role because it not only contributes to food security through the provision of animal protein, but also becomes a source of income for rural communities and local economic drivers.
"Therefore, the moment of sacrifice needs to be utilized optimally by strengthening the livestock ecosystem, so that this sector is able to grow sustainably and provide wider economic benefits for the people," concluded Tira.
