Stepanus 'Case Broker' Changes Information Regarding Azis Syamsuddin, KPK Seeks Evidence Of Conspiracy

JAKARTA - Former investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) from the police, Stepanus Robin Pattuju, changed the minutes of the examination (BAP) regarding the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives Azis Syamsuddin at the Tanjungbalai Mayor's session.

In response to this, the KPK confirmed that it would continue to look for evidence. Moreover, each investigation process is not only based on the testimony of one witness.

"Every investigation process by the KPK is not only based on one witness statement, but all witness statements that will be interconnected, including with other evidence so that it can be concluded that there are facts about the actions of the suspect and other parties," said Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Affairs Ali Fikri told reporters quoted on Wednesday, July 28.

As for the trial, Stepanus, who received bribes from M Syahrial to stop the case handling process, was asked several times about Azis Syamsuddin's connection to this case. However, he changed his statement and differed from the BAP in the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU).

He said his meeting with Syahrial happened without Azis knowing. Meanwhile, based on the BAP, Stepanus admitted that the invitation was delivered by Azis through an aide named Dedi.

In addition, Stepanus admitted that he did not meet Azis during the meeting with Syahrial. In fact, in the BAP he actually said otherwise.

With these different statements, Ali ensured that the KPK prosecutors would continue to look for evidence from other witnesses. This is done in order to reveal the truth and enforce the law as well as possible.

"The public prosecutor's team will summon and examine other witnesses to confirm on the agenda for the next trial," said Ali.

He also said that the KPK was continuing to investigate the alleged involvement of Azis Syamsuddin in this case. Prosecutors, said Ali, continue to seek and collect evidence and witness statements at the trial.

Not only that, he also said the KPK was continuing to look for evidence of alleged conspiracy in the case.

"There is still time to find out and prove the chronology of this alleged conspiracy of premeditated bribery. We will continue to reveal the truth about the roles of the people suspected of being involved before the law," Ali concluded.
