JAKARTA - A woman who was attacked by an estuarine crocodile in Ganesha Mukti Village Line 15, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, on Sunday, May 30, has yet to be found.

Muara Padang Police Chief, AKP Marinus Ginting said that until the fourth day of searching there had been no signs of the appearance of a crocodile or the body of the victim, Karsiti (45), although a joint team and residents had combed almost 1.5 kilometers.

"We haven't talked about stopping the search, we are still looking because the family still hopes that the victim can be found," said Marinus Ginting when contacted from Palembang, as reported by Antara, Thursday, June 3.

According to him, the search process was carried out manually using a resident's boat, while the search was focused on the flow of the canal where the victim was attacked by an estuarine crocodile while fishing with his child.

Although there is a possibility that the victim's body was carried by a crocodile into the river which is connected to the canal, he admitted that it was quite difficult to conduct a search in the river because the area was too large.

While in the search process, some residents were desperate to go down to the canal when the water receded to grope the bottom of the canal hoping to find the victim's body.

"We have banned them, but they still come down and we monitor them from above, as soon as the tide comes back we force them to go up," he said.

In addition, his party has increased the strength of police personnel to 40 people from the original 30 people to maximize the search process with the BPBD, BKSDA, and TNI teams.

He said the victim's family had received various assistance from villagers to members of the Banyuasin DPRD to provide support and a sign of condolences.

Previously, the victim Karsiti was attacked by an estuarine crocodile on Sunday (30/5) at 20.30 WIB while fishing with her son on the edge of a canal which was only 15 meters from her house.

The crocodile initially grabbed his son, but the son dodged and the crocodile attack hit the victim's body until it fell into the canal and has not reappeared until now.
