Indonesia Determined to Complete the Mission of Revenge against Togo at the Davi Cup

JAKARTA - The Davis Indonesia team has a big mission to complete the revenge ambition against Togo on the second day of the World Group II Davis Cup playoff held at the GBK Tennis Stadium, Jakarta.

The 2-0 lead on the first day became a strong foothold for the Red and White squad to erase the dark memory of the historical relegation.

"When we lost to Togo, it was really sad and really disappointed. It's not just losing, but for the first time we have fallen to Group III in history," said Indonesian men's singles player Muhammad Rifqi Fitriadi after the match, Saturday.

"So this is really an amazing opportunity to be able to rematch."

In 2024, the Indonesian team was relegated from Group II of the World after losing 2-3 to Togo. As a result of the defeat, Indonesia dropped to Group III of the Asia/Oceania zone.

In 2025, the Indonesian team managed to return to the World Group II after dominating Pool B. At that time, the Indonesian team won 2-1 over Syria, won 3-0 over Cambodia, won 3-0 over Sri Lanka, and won 2-1 over Jordan.

Rifqi added that the desire to do a rematch had emerged even before the draw was made. He admitted that he had hoped that the drawing would reunite the two teams in order to restore the dignity of Indonesian men's tennis to Group II of the World.

In line with Rifqi, Justin Barki assessed that the 2-0 advantage was a very crucial mental capital to complete the mission faster.

Justin led Indonesia 2-0 over Togo by defeating Kwami Stanislas Dussey 6-0, 6-3. Previously, Rifqi opened the first day's playoff match with a victory over Noah Koffi 6-1, 6-1.

"Leading 2-0 is mentally different than one to one. We hope tomorrow we can perform optimally, hopefully we can lock in a 3-0 victory so that the match can be completed early," said Justin.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's captain Sebastian da Costa ensured that he would not relax. He confirmed that he would still maintain the duet of Justin Barki and Christopher Rungkat in the doubles sector to ensure an absolute victory point on the second day, Sunday.

Even though they only need one more point to ensure victory over Togo, the second day's playoff match still schedules two singles matches between Rifqi and Dussey, then Justin against Koffi.
