JAKARTA - Russian attacks killed two residents in the city of Sumy in northeastern Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said rescue operations were carried out at the site. It is suspected that more people may be under the rubble.

City officials previously said Sumy, located about 30 km from Russia's borders, was hit by Russian airstrikes on Tuesday, November 26.

They said the car service area, several houses and educational buildings were damaged by the attack.

Zelenskyy said Sumy was hit by a multiple launch rocket system attack.

"It is very realistic to protect ourselves from the attack by destroying Russian weapons, Russia's launch system on Russian territory. That's why the ability to attack Russian territory is so important to us," Zelenskyy said.

Russia's Defense Ministry previously said Ukraine attacked Russia with US-produced ATACMS missiles twice over the past three days. Moscow is preparing for retaliation.

The war between Russia and Ukraine is at a critical stage, where Moscow reportedly used North Korean and Kyiv forces using missiles supplied by the West to re-attack Russian territory.
