BMKG Calls Shadowless Day In Aceh (ANTARA)

BANDA ACEH - The Aceh Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency (BMKG) stated that the day without a shadow or main culmination occurred in Banda Aceh at 12:36.14 WIB.

"It has been observed from a place that is not covered by clouds or a bright place," said Aceh BMKG Forecaster / Forecaster on Duty Muhammad Rafly, in Banda Aceh, Saturday 9 September.

Rafly explained that the culmination or transit or istiwa' is a phenomenon when the sun is right at its highest position in the sky. When the declination of the sun is the same as the latitude of the observer, the phenomenon is referred to as the main culmination.

"At that time, the sun would be directly above the observer's head or at the zenith point," he said as quoted by Antara.

As a result, the image of an upright object will appear to "disappear" about 30 seconds after and before the peak time in each region, as it overlaps with the object itself.

Therefore, the main culmination day is also known as a day without a shadow.

He explained that the main culmination could occur because the equatorial field or the rotation of the Earth was not precisely narrowed by the field of ecliptics or the Earth's revolution so that the position of the sun from Earth would be seen changing throughout the year between 23.5o LU and 23.5o LS.

"This is referred to as the sun's daily pseudo movement," he said.

This year, he said, the sun will be on the equator on March 21, 2023 at 04.24 WIB and September 23, 2023 at 13.50 WIB.

As for June 21, 2023 at 21:57 WIB, the Sun was at the North turning point and on December 22, 2023 at 10.27 WIB the Sun was at the South turning point.

Furthermore, Rafly said that the main culmination in Indonesian territory will occur twice a year and the time is not far from when the sun is at the equator because of Indonesia's position around the equator.

"In general, the main culmination in 2023 in Indonesia occurred between February 21, 2023 at Baa, East Nusa Tenggara until April 5, 2023 in Sabang, Aceh and September 8, 2023 in Sabang, Aceh until October 21, 2023 in Baa, East Nusa Tenggara," said Rafly.
