JAKARTA - Danny Pomanto or Ir. H Mohammad Ramdhan Pomanto is the former mayor of Makassar for the period 2014 to 2019. Danny is advancing again in the 2020 Makassar Pilkada accompanied by Fatmawati Rusdi. This pair was promoted by the Nasdem Party and the Gerindra Party.

Danny was born in Makassar on January 30, 1964. His career in the world of politics has long been well known across the island of Sulawesi.

Danny, who graduated from Hasanuddin University, has participated in the election for governor of Gorontalo but failed. In 2018, he also stepped forward as the mayor of Makassar in partnership with the Deputy Chairperson of the Makassar DPRD Indira Mulyasari. However, Danny Pomanto was disqualified because he was considered to have violated KPU regulations.

Two years passed, Danny fought again. He is the only running mate in the 2020 Makassar Pilkada who is accompanied by a woman, namely Fatmawati. The reason he was chosen was none other than his established political experience.

Fatmawati, who was born in Parepare, May 9, 1980, has sat in the DPR RI for the 2014-2019 period. Her husband, Rusdi Masse also comes from political circles, namely the former regent of Sidrap Regency in 2008 who is now a member of the DPR RI.

Danny Pomanto is a professional architect. His work can be seen through the Amirul Mukminin Mosque which was built floating on Losari Beach, Makassar. When he served as mayor of Makassar for three years, he also used his knowledge as a "manager" to the fullest.

At that time Danny focused on building alleys and arranging city parks. In his view, the hallway is a section of roads inhabited by a large number of households.

The hallway is identical with backwardness, narrow, slum and other associated negative labels. On that basis, he focused on building the area.

Controversy and Danny's voice recording

Recently, Danny had a dispute with former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla over allegations of defamation. Danny accuses Jusuf Kalla of being behind the arrest of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo.

When confirmed, Danny did not dodge. He took the recording during a light discussion with Laskar Merah Putih (LMP) on November 27, 2020.

However, Danny said, the recording had been massively edited and disseminated on social media to bring him down, ahead of the local elections.

"This was allegedly an evil conspiracy to slander and corner me with the hope that Danny-Fatma would lose the 2020 Makassar City Pilwali. This turned out to have been long planned," said Danny as quoted by Kompas.
