JAKARTA - Now Instagram users can no longer find the Recent tab on the hashtag page. The company reasons to do this in order to show more relevant content to its users.

Currently when a user selects a hashtag, they will be taken to a page full of content that has been uploaded using that hashtag through three categories, Top, Recent and Reels.

But with this change, users will only see the Top and Reels categories. From this, it can be seen that Instagram is looking for a way to promote Reels, a competitor to TikTok, while bringing out the posts that receive the most engagement on the platform.

"We wanted to see if this helped people connect with more engaging and relevant content on hashtags, while keeping them up to date," said Instagram.

This may be an unwanted change for some users, as they may prefer the option to follow newer content related to the hashtag.

Launching TechCrunch, Wednesday, April 20, Instagram said, this update is an attempt to make hashtags as valuable as possible to their users. Even so, the removal of the Recent tab is still in the testing phase.

The move comes weeks after Instagram began testing a new feature that aims to make it easier for users to find and support social causes directly through hashtags.

Now, when a user searches for a specific hashtag related to a particular social movement, the user will have the option to support it through a new option.

Once users get to the hashtag page, they can select Support to learn more about the movement. There is also a “Spread the Word” button that lets users share hashtag pages with friends via DM.
