The Grip of Pornography Lurks in Jakarta

JAKARTA – In the last week, Indonesian society, especially in Jakarta, has been shocked by an unusual pornography case. The police have succeeded in uncovering a pornographic film production house in Jakarta!

This pornographic film production house was revealed when the police carried out a cyber patrol. During this patrol, three websites were found that broadcast adult films with an average duration of between one and 1.5 hours.

In this case, the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya has named five suspects with their respective roles. Dirkrimsus Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner (Kombes) Ade Safri Simanjuntak, revealed that the five suspects included I as director, site admin, owner, and producer. Apart from that, JAAS acts as cameraman, AIS as editor, and AT as sound engineer.

Not only that, SE also acts as a secretary and actor in adult films. Apart from that, there are eleven female actors and five male actors who are still being chased by the police.

This production house has created at least 120 pornographic films, and to expedite production, three studios are used for filming, two in the Srengseng Sawah area and one in Jatipadang, South Jakarta.

This pornographic film production house in South Jakarta seems to be very serious about its business. The reason is, hundreds of pornographic films produced involve artists, celebrities and models. Ade Safri revealed that the production house was looking for actors from its network and profiling via social media.

"The method of recruiting actors in immoral videos and films involves talent from their network, as well as through profiling on social media of potential actors," he said on Monday (11/9).

Ade Safri also stated that even though the actors are not bound by contracts, they are paid up to tens of millions of rupiah per film, ranging from IDR 10 million to IDR 15 million, depending on the actor's influence in society.

The pornographic films produced by the production house in South Jakarta are transmitted via websites managed by the perpetrators. What is surprising is that before this case was revealed, there were already tens of thousands of users who had joined and subscribed to these porn sites at different rates.

"As for the types or rates offered, there are subscription packages for one day at a price of IDR 50 thousand, one week IDR 150 thousand, one month IDR 250 thousand, up to one year IDR 500 thousand. "Total profits since 2022 will reach IDR 500 million," explained Ade Safri.

However, before the public had time to overcome the shock of the pornographic film production house case, on Tuesday (12/9), the South Jakarta Metro Police succeeded in uncovering the activities of a sex party called Orgy in an apartment in the Semanggi area, South Jakarta.

According to the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for South Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Bintoro, the organizers have held sex parties several times in several locations, such as in Bogor, Cilandak, and most recently in Semanggi.

This case was discovered after the South Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit received reports from residents and succeeded in naming five suspects, each with their own role.

Bintoro explained that the organizers distributed Orgy party flyers via social media. In the pamphlet, there are several rules that must be followed, including paying IDR 1 million to join an Orgy party, bringing contraceptives, and maintaining cleanliness.

So, what is the cause of the increase in rampant pornography in Jakarta? Many people still remember the book entitled "Jakarta Undercover" which explored sex life in Jakarta.

The author of the book, Moammar Emka, revealed that there are actually not that many porn film production houses. More common are pornographic films produced independently and sold illegally.

Apart from pornographic film production houses, in Indonesia there are also local platforms that provide naked live streaming, known as sex live streaming.

Emka highlighted the figures responsible apart from the five suspects who have been named, such as the director, cameraman, editor, sound engineer and secretary who were also actors in the pornographic film production house case.

According to Emka, the figures in the cast are not actually regulated by law. Those who should be prosecuted are those involved in human trafficking for sexual purposes, such as pimps or those involved in online prostitution.

Returning to sex entertainment, Emka believes that this ultimately gave birth to a pornographic film production house whose production results are distributed via digital media which is not owned by conventional entertainment venues in Jakarta.

However, it needs to be understood that sex entertainment in the form of pornographic films is actually different from the conventional entertainment industry which is available in physical form such as clubs or prostitution businesses. Both have different legal rules.

On average, those involved as actors in pornographic films actually come from various professions, ranging from celebrities, models, to Instagram celebrities. Although other factors such as lifestyle play a role, the biggest reason they enter the sex entertainment industry is economic.

Recently, the presence of the sex entertainment industry in Indonesia is no longer a secret. What is happening now has been going on for a long time and has only recently come to light. In the end, the victims were the actors involved in this pornographic film production house.

The same opinion was expressed by Yuanita Apriliandini Siregar, a sociologist from UNJ. According to him, the motive behind making pornographic films is economic factors. Because pornography has become an industry with large, lucrative income.

"In terms of talent or actors, they see that being an actor in a pornographic film can bring greater popularity," she told VOI on Friday (15/9).

She argues that the pornography industry has become more difficult to control because it has entered the private sphere. Therefore, the spread of pornography is increasingly rampant in Jakarta, and may result in a pornography emergency in Indonesia.
