JAKARTA YouTube added a new feature that can prevent children from accessing accounts belonging to more mature people on the YouTube app for television. This new feature is named the Parent Code.

On its official website, YouTube explains that this feature needs to be activated before it is used. Once activated, children can no longer switch accounts on YouTube just to watch videos freely or without age restrictions.

"We're rolling out a new parent code feature that you can activate to prevent your kids from watching YouTube when they're out of the account or accessing accounts aimed at your older family members," YouTube said.

The Parent Code feature will appear when the user accesses YouTube after logging out of the app, when the user wants to access an account with the age category over 13 years of age or more, and when the user wants to delete the account from the device.

Although this feature can limit children's access to the YouTube app, the Google-owned platform explains that the Parent Code only works on television. This feature will not affect other devices such as cell phones, tablets, or computers.

"We hope this change gives you a sense of security knowing that children cannot use your smart TV accounts and features that are not aimed at them, while making recommendations on your profile more relevant to your interests," explained YouTube.

The Parent Code feature will be launched in stages in the near future. YouTube explained that this feature will later be available in Settings for all YouTube app users on television.
