Snapchat's My AI Feature Can Be Blocked If Proven To Be Dangerous For Children's Privacy

JAKARTA A British regulator, John Edwards, said he was worried about the presence of My AI, an interactive chatbot, on Snapchat. According to him, this new feature could endanger the privacy of children.

Edwards explained that the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) had released their interim findings. These findings indicate the possibility of Snapchat failing to maintain privacy in the use of a generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot.

If in the next investigation My AI proves to fail to maintain the privacy of children and other users, this ChatGPT-based chatbot feature on Snapchat could be immediately blocked in the UK.

However, ICO did not act immediately even though it had released the results of an interim investigation. The privacy watchdog did not immediately take serious action or ensnare Snapchat with the issue of violating data protection laws.

In response to this issue, a spokesman from Snapchat gave an explanation of their My AI feature. Citing from Reuters, the spokesperson explained that the AI they use has been reviewed through strict legal and privacy processes.

Although they have gone through a number of pre-publicity processes, Snapchat will be working with ICO to ensure the safety and comfort of their chatbot features.

ICO itself is seriously paying attention to this issue because referring to data in May, Snapchat has 21 million monthly active users in the UK aged 13 to 17 years.

So that children can comfortably use various Snapchat features and parents can feel calm and not worry, ICO will continue to monitor this platform and investigate further.
